The Long Road Home

Kalsang can hardly remember his father. The last time he saw him was at the age of six, when Kalsang fled Tibet. He never imagined he would remain an exile in a foreign land for the next 30 years.

Like other Tibetan exiles, Kalsang yearns to return to Tibet. He became an integral part of the “Free Tibet” movement in 2001, and for many years helped in rallies and protests to raise global awareness of their plight. As a result, his family was constantly on the run from the local authorities.

Two years ago, his daughter Tenzin Lhayun was born. Kalsang began to settle down to a different life.

Today Kalsang is a house-husband and Tantric practitioner. He still dreams of returning to Tibet to see his longest father. But he wants to do it on his own terms. “Yes I want to go back to U-Tsang, but not illegally.”
