Not So Different

By Ang Chor Chen with Anit Gurung

Christians make up just 1.8% of the Nepalese population. Before I met Rupesh Pariyar, I imagined that his life as a Christian would be difficult. After all, Nepal is predominantly Hindu and being Christian is to choose a different path.

Being with Rupesh for a week showed me otherwise. Making his living as a suit-maker in Bhaktapur, Rupesh has no choice but to be away from his loved ones, who stay in a village four hours away.

Faith keeps him focused and binds his family together.

This is a story of a Nepalese Christian, no different from any good Nepalese, labouring quietly to provide for his family.
